When adopting a colon cleansing diet plan, it is important that you take it slow, maintaining your health is you as first priority, cleansing takes second priority.
Any ill side effects that may occur from your diet such as constipation, dehydration or a bloated abdomen should be taken as signs that you are not doing it correctly.
A colon cleansing diet should make your body healthier and have no negative side effects.
In order to do this, you must compensate for the vitamins that your body is not getting during the diet.
There are certain foods that are best to eat in the morning and those that are better to eat in the afternoon and at night.
What to Eat for Breakfast
The number one nutrient you want to consume a lot of while on a colon cleanse diet is fiber. Fiber helps with digestion which is exactly what you need while colon cleansing.
Fruit is one of the best ways to take in high amounts of fiber. In addition to loads of fiber, fruit is also packed with water that will keep you hydrated while doing your cleanse.
Staying hydrated and drinking enough water is always important. Try to eat nothing but fruit until lunch. This sounds much more difficult than it actually is.
The carbohydrates in fruit cancel out cravings and make you feel full for longer than if you were to eat a giant breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast.
What ‘Not’ To Eat at Lunch and Dinner
One mistake that many people make that leads to bad digestion is mixing carbs and proteins.
What people do not know is that carbohydrates are broken down by a specific digestive fluid that is different from the fluid your body uses to break down proteins.
When you eat carbohydrates alone, your body has a chance to completely digest what you have ingested.
However, when you eat both proteins and carbs in the same sitting, the two fluids (one for carbs and another for proteins) mix together.
Upon mixing they become less effective at doing their job. This leads to incomplete digestion and consequently gas, constipation and a bloated abdomen.
What to Eat at Lunch and Dinner
If you are unfamiliar with making meals that do not combine carbohydrates and proteins, here are some suggestions:
· Pasta with garlic bread and a salad. You can add sauce to the pasta as long as it contains no meat. This is the perfect meal for when you are craving carbohydrates because the pasta and bread is full of starches.
· Chicken with steamed or raw vegetables. This is the meal you can eat when you are craving protein. By leaving out the pasta side dish or garlic bread you are not combining carbs and proteins.
· Steak with broccoli and salad. Although potatoes or steak fries with your steak dinner probably sounds appetizing, you will not be feeling great afterward.
In addition to not combining proteins and carbohydrates, you should never eat right before sleeping. When you fall asleep your entire body slows down, including your digestive system. Falling asleep allows for a slow and incomplete digestion.
What to Drink on a Colon Cleansing Diet
Getting sufficient fluids is perhaps the most important part of a colon cleanse diet. When you become dehydrated, your stool hardens and you become constipated.
In general you should only be drinking water, tea, and natural juices (without much added sugar). No soda pop of any kind.
